I need some advice here, I feel one way but know that I Kapalua should go another way. I am going to ask my girlfriend to me. Everything is perfect, all my duck's are in a row, and I have waited enough (almost 5 years). We have experienced all the ups and downs of a relationship and are still together, I know this is the right. Here is where I am confused though, do I ask her father for his blessing on the future marriage (if all goes according to plan)? I know the roots of asking trace back to when women were treated as property and ultimately the decision is for my girlfriend to make. I it as if he does not want to give his blessing, he can go pound dirt; I do not need reassurance from him and neither does my girlfriend. But at the same time the act of asking for a blessing is a ritual and is the more appropriate thing to do. I get along just fine with him (he can be a little snobby at times and thinks I want his advice all the time), we talk about whatever and even go get drinks at the local watering hole every now and then. The one deterrant I with asking him for a blessing is having to sit there and listen to him I have treated his daughter with the utmost respect and have never given him reason to believe otherwise. I am sure that he almost try and put fear in me about what happen if I screw up and spend an hour giving me tips on how to make the marriage work (when his is mediocre at best and he is too short sighted to it). I do not know how I be able to sit there and let him give me a lecture on life and women when that is the last thing I want to hear. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
